    The Amagansett Union Free School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Custodial Worker I. This is a full-time position that involves maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment for students, staff, and the community.


    Position: Custodial Worker I (Civil Service Title: 8051)

    Job Description

    Under direct supervision, the Custodial Worker I performs moderately heavy manual work in the cleaning and upkeep of school district buildings. Responsibilities include general housekeeping duties, basic maintenance tasks, and other related work as assigned. While work is overseen by a Custodial Worker II or another supervisor, many duties become routine and can be carried out independently once learned.


    Typical Duties

    • Mop, wax, polish, and strip floors; vacuum carpets
    • Dust and polish furniture, shelving, paneling, and light fixtures
    • Wash windows, walls, and woodwork
    • Empty garbage cans and trash receptacles
    • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies
    • Move furniture and equipment as directed; perform minor repairs
    • Perform painting during school recess periods
    • Complete occasional outdoor maintenance duties, including snow removal
    • Assist with grounds maintenance during school recess

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Working knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in custodial work
    • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
    • Ability to make minor repairs and adjust cleaning equipment
    • Ability to perform moderately heavy physical tasks
    • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position

    Minimum Qualifications

    There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this position.
