Annual Professional Performance Review
APPR A PARENT'S RIGHT TO KNOW
Pursuant to Education Law Section 3012-c, parents and legal guardians of students may request the final quality rating and composite effectiveness score for each of the teachers and for the principal of the school building to which their children are assigned for the current school year. The law does not allow and, in fact, prohibits the release of any additional information about the individual teacher beyond the final rating and composite score. The following shall govern the procedures for such access.
Pursuant to State law, the District shall provide conspicuous notice to parents/legal guardians of their right to obtain information regarding access to teacher and/or principal scores under the APPR and the methods by which the data can be obtained. Annual professional performance reviews of individual teachers and Principals shall not be subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Law.
Only parents and legal guardians may have access to the final quality rating and composite score of the student’s teacher(s) and principal. The Amagansett Union Free School District shall take reasonable steps to ensure that the person requesting the information is a parent or legal guardian of the student to whom the teacher(s) or principal is assigned. Requests for APPR final quality ratings and/or composite scores must be in writing on the form provided by the District. No oral requests will be honored. The School District will request additional verification, such as licenses or other photo identification to verify that the person requesting the information is the parent or legal guardian of the student. In the case of legal guardians, the School District will require proof of guardianship (e.g., court orders, etc.). The status of the requesting person will be verified against other information concerning the student in the possession of the School District (e.g., information or documents submitted at the time of registration) and the requesting person will be notified once their request has been verified and approved
Curriculum & Instruction at Amagansett
At Amagansett School, our approach to curriculum and instruction is grounded in our shared commitment to Our Way: Be Kind, Commit to the Team, Respect Differences, Choose Positivity, Be Honest, and Trust One Another. These values guide not only how we interact as a community, but how we design learning experiences for every child.
We believe that all students deserve access to high-quality, standards-based instruction that fosters both academic growth and a deep love of learning. Our curriculum is built on a coherent, vertically aligned framework that emphasizes essential standards, conceptual understanding, and the development of critical thinking skills.
Instruction at Amagansett is driven by a Workshop Model, where students actively engage in meaningful learning through mini-lessons, collaborative experiences, and differentiated small group instruction. This structure promotes independence, strengthens executive functioning skills, and ensures that instruction is responsive to individual student needs.
Through a cycle of teaching and learning, educators use data to inform instruction, provide targeted support, and continuously refine their practice. Our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) ensures that all students receive the level of support they need to succeed, with a strong focus on equity and access.
At the heart of our work is a belief that learning should be joyful, engaging, and purposeful. We strive to create classrooms where students feel a strong sense of belonging, are encouraged to take risks, and are empowered to think deeply and grow as learners.
Together, as a school community, we are committed to building a learning environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
